Projects
6G-ARROW
2025 – 2027
The 6GARROW project is an international collaboration between the European Union and the Republic of Korea focused on advancing AI-native integrated Radio Access Networks (RAN) and core network architectures for future 6G mobile systems. By embedding artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities seamlessly across devices, terminals, and networks, 6GARROW aims to unlock unprecedented levels of efficiency, flexibility, and real-time adaptability. The project emphasizes semantic communications to prioritize meaningful information exchange, enabling goal-oriented network optimization and enhanced AI reasoning. Through experimental testbeds and proof-of-concept platforms, 6GARROW validates innovative AI-driven solutions for energy-efficient base station management, mobility control, and resilient network orchestration, laying the foundation for next-generation intelligent and context-aware 6G networks.
6G-DISAC
2024 – 2026
The integration of sensing and communications (ISAC) is widely seen as one of the main and disruptive features of the next generation of wireless communication systems . ISAC indeed allows the envisioned 6G network to not only communicate, but also to sense the environment, localise and track users as well as passive devices and objects within the wireless propagation environment, which in turn can be used for mobilising sensing-aided applications and/or improving communication functions. All those functionalities are expected to be offered by the same 6G network infrastructure. The 6G-DISAC project will bring the ISAC vision into reality, going well beyond the usual restrictive standalone or localised scenarios, by adopting a holistic perspective, with large numbers of connected users and/or passive objects to be tracked, and relying on a widely distributed intelligent infrastructure compatible with both real-world integration constraints and the flexibility requirements of future wireless networks.
ANR QCSP
2019 – 2023
The ANR QCSP (Quasi Cyclic Small Packet) project focused on designing a new coded modulation scheme dedicated to IoT networks. It addressed the challenge of efficient reliable communication for small-packet traffic typical of massive IoT deployments, leveraging quasi-cyclic codes optimized for low-complexity decoding and high performance over wireless channels.
Hexa-X
2020 – 2022
2030 and beyond, Europe and the world will face opportunities and challenges of growth and sustainability of tremendous magnitude; proactively tackling the issues of green deal efficiency, digital inclusion and assurance of health and safety in a post-pandemic world will be key. A powerful vision is needed to connect the physical, digital, and human worlds, firmly anchored in future wireless technology and architectural research. The Hexa-X vision calls for an x-enabler fabric of connected intelligence, networks of networks, sustainability, global service coverage, extreme experience, and trustworthiness. Wireless technologies are of critical relevance for our society and economy today; their importance for growth will continue to steadily increase with 5G and its evolution, enabling new ecosystems and services motivated by strongly growing traffic and trillions of devices. The ambition of the Hexa-X project includes developing key technology enablers in the areas of: (a) fundamentally new radio access technologies at high frequencies and high-resolution localization and sensing; (b) connected intelligence through AI-driven air interface and governance for future networks, and (c) 6G architectural enablers for network disaggregation and dynamic dependability.
